Standard Chartered
Standard Chartered’s presence in Nigeria dates back to the early 1960’s where it had major stakes in various iterations of Standard Chartered Nigeria, and the First Bank of Nigeria, but after a period of absence the company re-entered the Nigerian banking market in 1999 opening Standard Chartered Nigeria and has thrived there ever since. Amongst the Bank’s 900 staff in the country, is it’s highly qualified in-house legal team. Sola Mabadeje, company secretary and head of legal, manages the skilled team which is adept in all commercial, regulatory and financial legal matters, and a leader in the upstream oil industry, advising on most of the market’s major deals in the last three years. In particular, the team has worked on the Bank’s first partnership with the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), an infrastructure development finance institution, launched in May 2018 and predicted to generate US$350m through the investment project’s three year lifetime.
