Molinos Río de la Plata is Argentina’s largest branded food-products company and is a subsidiary of the Perez Companc Family Group. Heading up the legal and compliance function is Ana Carina Turco Grecco, who first joined the company in 2000 as its head of corporate matters, gaining six years of experience managing considerable transactional activity before becoming legal manager in 2006. In 2014, due to a special request of the board of directors, she added compliance responsibilities to her remit. With 12 lawyers, two paralegals and three food engineers reporting into her, she takes it upon to herself to maintain ‘a deep understanding of the organisation’. Succeeding in providing ‘innovative solutions to reach business objectives’ and ‘different ways of approaching problems and opportunities’, she keeps the business tuned in to all relevant compliance matters via her direct reporting lines to the CEO and the internal audit committee. Turco has managed numerous important transactions that were made more difficult due to political and economic changes in Argentina, which she states have a ‘great impact’ on her ability to perform them. She attributes success in navigating these challenges to the close ties between legal and senior strategic directors, which are necessary in the face of directly assisting the business of what has become Argentina’s largest food company. Turco is particularly proud of creating a ‘legal culture’ in the organisation and states that business people within the company see the legal department as a ‘partner’ and ‘solutions provider’.
