Tomás Thibaud has made a substantial contribution to multinational conglomerate 3M through a variety of roles across a wide range of legal and corporate areas, after first joining in 2005 as an intern in the Argentine legal department. Thibaud has become known for the high standard of his work and he has been a propagator of compliance culture that has the aim of being ‘best in class’. For example, he has piloted several compliance initiatives in 3M Argentina before they are subsequently implemented in other subsidiaries of 3M around the world. Thibaud explains how this change of culture was ‘embraced by colleagues at the board of directors [level] and cascaded to the whole organisation’, speaking to his excellent communicative ability with colleagues. Despite recent conditions providing ‘really challenging’ for a company whose headquarters are based in the USA, Thibaud has worked closely with senior management and other colleagues to lead efforts to implement a strategic business plan with the input of the legal and compliance functions, efforts which have resulted in ‘reducing losses on claims’. Further impressive results include a 55% reduction in total claims over total sales and a 45% reduction in the total claims liability. A private practice source praised Thibaud’s ‘great skills’ in handling 3M legal matters and stated that his work is ‘very proactive’ as he ‘fully understands the business’. In addition to his role at 3M, Thibaud is a well-respected and recognised industry figure, being a member of the board of directors of the Argentina chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) and giving speeches to audiences at several different conferences and panels across Latin America.
