Diego Juan Abelleyra has been general counsel of Genneia since June 2010 and chief compliance officer since March 2018. Genneia, formerly known as Emgasud, is an Argentine power company, a leader in the supply of energy solutions based on the use of cutting-edge technologies in thermal equipment and a principal investor in renewable energy projects in the country. Abelleyra is a highly skilled lawyer, with more than 15 years of experience in private practice. Prior to assuming his position as general counsel at Genneia, he spent 11 years working for Marval, O’Farrell & Mairal, the largest law firm in Argentina. Since the move in-house, he explains that he has ‘developed a broad expertise in structuring and negotiation of the contractual framework for the development, construction, financing and operation of renewable and conventional energy projects. My recent appointment as chief compliance officer brought me additional professional challenges in a motivating field of practice of the profession’, he comments. As general counsel, Abelleyra is instrumental in organising and developing a team focused on helping the internal client understand and manage the legal risks and deliver its business strategy. He has also set up the new compliance area of Genneia and implemented a compliance programme. Recently Abelleyra and his team have been negotiating and closing many construction agreements and project financing transactions of Genneia’s multiple renewable energy projects.
