IRSA’s mission statement is to generate sustainable growth in the flow of funds and increase the value of the company’s real estate assets in the long-term, and crucial in attaining these goals is the head of legal and director Gaston A. Lernoud, who has earned an excellent reputation in the Argentine legal market via a long tenure advising the company. Lernoud first started his career as a member of the external legal firm advising IRSA and related companies in 1997, where he remained for five years before making the move in-house and joining the company itself. Lernoud’s biggest highlight during his career is cited as the formation of what he calls a ‘perfectly assembled and consolidated working group’, which he is particularly proud of due to growing the IRSA legal department based on specific results and short, medium and long term objectives. Working within Argentina’s economic, social and political context, Lernoud has managed to develop an ability to cope with various externalities, and the results he has achieved for a business he has been working ‘side by side’ with for more than 15 years embody this. Since 2002, he has been in charge of IRSA´s legal team, a position he currently holds in addition to being an executive officer, director, and president of the board of some of IRSA´s related companies. This is in addition to his role of being charge of the company´s legal department, along with insurance, security, governmental affairs and environmental departments. All of this means that Lernoud has more than 1,500 people under his command, between independent contractors and professional and non-professional employees.
