Currently leading a team of 31 staff, Gonzalo Braceras operates as general counsel at Banco Galicia, one of the largest private banks in Argentina. Banco Galicia offers a wide range of financial services to more than 4.2 million customers, both individuals and companies. Highly skilled at legal negotiation, international law, risk management and corporate finance, Braceras aligns himself closely to the business. Having joined Banco Galicia in March 2016, Braceras states he quickly ‘adjusted the way to deal with business to lean methodology’. He has also been involved in the digital transformation of Banco Galicia, as well as corporate reorganisations and complex litigation cases. Braceras is an experienced general counsel with a demonstrated history of working in the financial services industry; prior to his position at Banco Galicia, he spent over nine years at ICBC Argentina as general counsel, and nearly eight years at Wells Fargo. While at Wells Fargo, he ‘spent some time leading a start-up business which helped me understand the needs of my current customers’, he comments. It was also at Wells Fargo that Braceras worked overseas at the company’s US and Mexico offices. According to Braceras, the experience abroad ‘assisted me with understanding the dynamic of working in a diverse and changing environment’. At the early stage of his career, before moving to the in-house legal industry, Braceras worked for three years at a local law firm specialising in litigation, which ‘developed my ability to think strategically and measure risks more accurately’, he says.
