Ines Riobo is responsible for the legal affairs of the subsidiaries in the Sanofi Group in the South Cone region, covering Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, as well as distributor activities in Bolivia. The Group’s activities are divided in different businesses; one for general “pharma”, comprising products ranging from cosmetic products to over the counter drugs, including products for treatment of conditions such as diabetes, oncologic products, cardiovascular products and one for vaccines, (known in the market as Sanofi Pasteur) and one for rare orphan diseases, Genzyme. ‘We are working in a legal environment that is challenging, not only because of the changing context that the country in general is undergoing, but because of the need to develop capabilities to react to circumstances and actions of third party key players that are alien to the company. [We need] a capacity to foresee risk scenarios and proactively prepare in advance potential legal strategies to face them’, explains Riobo. She first joined Sanofi in September 2013 as legal manager for the Southern Cone, and in January 2016 she assumed position of legal head, South Cone, where she became responsible for legal affairs of Sanofi-Aventis, Sanofi Pasteur and Genzyme, leading the team to deal with a wide range of agreements while strengthening strategic partnership with the business and other support functions. She currently leads the team to deal with a number of large-scale transactions and complex legal issues in the area of commercial and international law, legal compliance, competition law and legal research within the pharmaceutical industry. In her previous position in St. Jude Medical, Riobo was responsible for legal affairs and compliance matters of the company’s subsidiaries in Latin America. Here she trained employees, distributors and agents with a broad involvement in policy-violation investigations. She also previously worked at the National Senate and in private practice at international law firm Baker & McKenzie.
