Schlumberger is one of the world’s leading providers of reservoir characterisation, drilling, production and processing technology for the oil and gas industry, and is present in more than 85 countries. Based in Buenos Aires, Julián Ferreiro is a highly regarded contracts manager for the company’s Latin American South area including Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay working within the legal department. He is responsible for the negotiation and general administration of all client service contracts, association agreement and for contingency and conflict resolution. Ferreiro has been involved in the company’s expansion in Argentina, particularly in contractual matters involving new shale gas operations. Prior to joining Schlumberger in 2018, Ferreiro spent over a decade at Pan American Energy as a senior legal counsel. He has significant industry experience, litigation and arbitration nuance, as well as advanced degrees in oil field legal management and contract law to assist the oversight of Schlumberger’s contract management across the entire Latin America South region. Ferreiro highlights that, ‘the main change I have pursued was working in the mind-set of the team to go forward and understand not only the legal aspects of the contracts but also the economics and technical issues involved. I believe every member of the contract team needs to be aware and understand all risks involved in contracts, subject to review or negotiation. Legal advice must be effective in this sense’.
