Mariel Alcoba joined Boston Scientific in March 2018 as its legal and compliance counsel, covering the Southern Cone and Andean regions. In her current role, she provides legal advice to company personnel in diverse matters by assisting, advising, investigating, researching and resolving legal matters within company policies to ensure that company personnel are aware of and in compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations. Alcoba also acts as the subject matter expert on Latin America health care professionals (HCP) policies, procedures and internal controls, including HCP contracting and needs assessments, annual policy reviews and revisions, and engagement of US HCPs to provide services in and outside the US. In addition, she advises on business transactions, including preparation, review and negotiation of agreements with HCPs in a variety of areas such as consulting, grants, and research. As legal and compliance counsel, Alcoba has been developing content and implementation of various company policies and procedures related to sales force interactions with HCPs and patients, as well as collaborating with global compliance and providing legal support for monitoring, auditing and investigations related to HCP interactions, processes and internal controls including reviewing findings and advising on corrective action to be implemented by the business. Before assuming her position at Boston Scientific, Alcoba gained substantial in-house experience by spending over seven years at PAREXEL, the world’s leading innovator of biopharmaceutical services.
