Regional legal counsel (South and West Latin America) | Louis Dreyfus Company
Santiago Codazzi is the regional legal counsel covering South and West Latin America at Louis Dreyfus Company, a leading merchant and processor of agricultural goods, active in over 100 countries and employing approximately 19,000 people globally. Codazzi began his career in the public sector working in the legal department of Argentina’s Ministry of Finance as well as civil and commercial courts. He then spent over 10 years as a corporate lawyer at both boutique and major law firms in Argentina. In 2016, he commenced his role as corporate in-house counsel at Louis Dreyfus Company, accompanied with vast experience in areas such as B2B and B2C, business legal structuring, in-house counselling at a regional level and public regulations. In his role as regional legal counsel, he is responsible for the provision of legal assistance and support for the regional ring-fencing and spin-off of certain business units of the company and the international defence and representation of the business on antidumping allegations, ‘Both tasks allowed me to interact with different functions and business units of the company around the world’ he says. Being proactive, Codazzi also provided the company with a detailed analysis of its legal status by preparing a matrix of all the legal claims in the region. With regards to legal disputes, Codazzi has represented several domestic and multinational corporations in individual and class actions before local and federal courts, and has led complex cross-border litigation and international commercial arbitration as well. In addition, Codazzi has been participating in the world of academia by publishing various legal papers on civil, commercial and business matters in renowned legal journals as well as taking the role as assistant professor for commercial litigation at the University of Buenos Aires School of Law.
