A subsidiary company owned 60% by BP and 40% by Bridas Corporation, Pan American Energy operates across Argentina, Bolivia, Mexico, Chile and Uruguay, and is the second largest producer of hydrocarbons in Argentina. Its legal team, led by recently appointed manager of legal affairs Fernando Fresco, provides hands-on support to the company’s two main operations – the Patagonia based San Jorge Gulf basin and the Neuquén basin situated in the Neuquén Province of Argentina.

With key strengths identified by sources in the field of administrative law, advising and negotiating financial agreements and arbitration, the team has been instrumental with its support of the company’s aggressive expansion strategy in Argentina, which has seen it invest US$1.2bn in 2017 alone. Since late 2017, the team has provided advice on a cash-free transaction to combine Pan American Energy and Axion Energy, which is expected to create the largest privately-owned integrated energy company operating in Argentina. Besides Fernando Fresco, who joined Pan American Energy in September 2014 following a two-year stint at Fresco Abogados, the department employs a number of talented lawyers such as legal manager Tomas Dominguez, senior counsel Esteban Rivarola and senior attorney Francisco Manuel Jamardo.
