Vice president and general counsel | Honeywell Connected Enterprise
During the past year, what are you and your teams’ proudest accomplishments?
2023 was a great year for Honeywell Connected Enterprise (“HCE”) as we continued in our mission to create software solutions that enable digital transformation. The legal team was a core part of that success and helped drive HCE’s organic growth through enabling the launch of several new products (including Honeywell Forge | Cyber Insights & Cyber Watch, an enterprise solution that helps companies identify, mitigate and manage operational technology cyber threats and Honeywell Forge for buildings which features software, hardware and services that help building owners and operators achieve sustainability, efficiency, occupant experience and safety goals) and closing some of our largest and most complex enterprise software transactions to date. On the M&A front, we were a key part of the deal team that closed the acquisition and integration of SCADAfence, a cybersecurity business. We were also at the forefront of the discussion on digital policy, working with global regulators to help shape new laws relating to IoT data, AI and cybersecurity. Honeywell is one of the world’s most prolific innovators, and we contributed to this filing significant numbers of patents globally. Lastly, we worked to protect the interests of Honeywell and successfully closed several highly complex disputes.
What strategic priorities are guiding you and your team in 2024?
Honeywell’s strategic priorities are focused on driving profitable growth with strong cash generation. Whilst HCE is already one of the largest global industrial software businesses, we see ourselves as an entrepreneurial start-up that can play an outsized role in Honeywell’s success as a core growth engine and generator of recurring revenue cashflows. HCE will continue to develop and launch new products and capabilities across our Honeywell Forge suite of offerings (focused on operational performance, sustainability, cybersecurity and safety), develop new go-to-market channels and global partnerships and pro-actively look to expand our portfolio through M&A and joint ventures. These business priorities guide the team’s focus as we work to enable continued year-on-year growth, whilst managing risk and driving compliance. From a regulatory perspective, 2024 will be an interesting year as we prepare for the implementation of the EU Data Act (which will regulate access to and sharing of IoT data), the EU AI act (which regulate the various forms of AI we use in our organization and products) and EU Cyber Resiliency Act. Ethics and compliance will continue to be a key focus, and we will be working to maintain and improve our robust compliance and governance framework.
Do you have a cause, business-related or otherwise, you are passionate about?
Success is built on having a strong foundation of talent, and I am focused on finding, developing and nurturing our people. It has been very fulfilling to see members of the team learn and grow into new challenges and roles and to help them on their career journey. As well as enabling my own teams, I also play a wider role mentoring and sponsoring individuals across the organization, including through our inclusion and diversity executive sponsorship and career advancement programs.
