One of Australia’s leading integrated energy companies with gas and renewable energy exploration, production and sales operations, legal support to Origin Energy is led by Andrew Clarke, group general counsel and company secretary. Clarke is an experienced lawyer and expert in the financial legal and energy law industries. Formerly a partner at a major national Australian law firm and a managing director of a global investment bank, Clarke brings a wealth of experience to his role and provides expert coverage of all legal and governance matters at Origin Energy and is also a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. As general counsel Clarke is heavily involved in the negotiation of major contracts and deals, including the recent announcement in August 2018 that Origin will provide 75% of the energy for Sydney Airport from wind power and firming storage to help the airport meet its long term energy renewability goals. It signed an another similar agreement with the University of New South Wales, and has been commissioned to open a “virtual power station” in Victoria operated using cutting edge technology including a cloud based management system, batteries and solar photovoltaic systems with a grant from the Victorian government.
