Australia’s flag carrier and the third oldest airline in the world, Qantas Airways has a large reputational and commercial presence in the market that requires constant, comprehensive and prompt legal advice. Andrew Finch – general counsel and group executive with responsibility for the office of the CEO – has a large part to play in ensuring this glowing reputation remains intact and the company’s commercial obligations are fulfilled and enhanced.

Finch first joined the Qantas Group in 2012, having previously accrued over 25 years of domestic and international legal experience including from international commercial law firm Allens, where he rose to the rank of partner specialising in M&A, equity capital markets and general corporate and governance advice. In his current role, Finch presides over a legal team that is responsible for the management of legal, governance, compliance and business integrity, safety, security and internal audit risk across the Qantas group.

The aforementioned group executive role means he presides over the group’s central assurance functions of safety, security and internal audit, supplementing not only his legal role but his position of group company secretary also. Finch is active in the Australian in-house legal community as a member of the ACC General Counsel Advisory Board, and ACC Australia’s GC100 and Advocacy Network.
