Australia’s leading integrated energy company and its largest energy retailer, Origin Energy delivers energy solutions to over four million electricity, natural gas and LPG customers. As head of legal, Sydney, Daniel Krutik plays a crucial role in handling legal matters for the company in the country’s largest city and having held this position since 2010, has accumulated significant experience of mitigating legal risks for an important entity in Australia’s energy sector.

He leads a team of lawyers who advise on various transactional and operational matters ranging from M&As, international development, energy risk management and accounting and finance among others. Recently, Krutik assisted the process of Origin’s $1.6bn AUD sale of its conventional upstream oil and gas business Lattice Energy to Beach Energy, further proving his commercial acumen and ability to collaborate with in-house peers and external counsel to achieve tangible business outcomes. Other key events during Krutik’s time at Origin include working on a $2.5bn AUD pro rata equity raising in 2015 and a highly complex acquisition from the New South Wales Government of two large retail gas and electricity businesses. Before Origin, Krutik enjoyed 11 years at law firm Herbert Smith Freehills. He graduated in law from the University of New South Wales in 1997.
