James Coyne has served as general counsel and company secretary of GPT Group – one of Australia’s largest diversified listed property groups – since 2004, bringing his considerable experience in the real estate fund management industry, wholesale and listed, as well as in the construction and infrastructure sectors. GPT Group is listed as one of the top ASX 50 listed companies by market capitalisation and manages properties worth AUD$22.7bn including offices, logistics, prime shopping centres and business complexes all over Australia.

Australia’s original listed property trust in 1971, GPT Group separated from its original parent company Lendlease in 2005 and has continued to become one Australia’s largest property groups. In the last year GPT Group has announced several new projects and initiatives including the consent of the city of Parramatta to construct a 26,000 square metre office building, a 25% stake investment into the Highpoint Shopping Centre and the Maribyrnong Homemaker Centre in Melbourne, as well as a continuation of ethical land management policies. For example, GPT Group announced in February 2018 its “Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan” a plan to improve the inclusivity of the company to Australia’s First Nation peoples, demonstrating its participation in the wider reconciliation movement, a core ethic of GPT Group’s corporate social responsibility policy and one that is innovative for the property sector in Australia in terms of its scope and commitment.
