General counsel and company secretary | Sydney Airport
Jamie Motum
General counsel and company secretary | Sydney Airport
In his current role of general counsel and company secretary for one of the world’s longest continuously operated commercial airports and the busiest airport in Australia, Jamie Motum has provided legal support to Sydney Airport since 2010. As part of his remit at the ASX listed company, Motum utilises his more than two decades of experience gained across a number of legal positions to support an airport which saw more than 43.4 million passengers pass through it and 348,520 aircraft movements in 2017.
Motum added company secretarial support to his remit in 2012 after his appointment to the company secretary role, assisting other peers in the company’s management team with defining and enabling business strategy. This includes the key task of the conception and eventual implementation of “Master Plan 2039”, an extensive project that will drive the airport’s strategic direction and development projects over the next 20 years. Initiatives outlined in the project’s briefing are intended to prepare the airport for a large increase in passengers, enable it to fulfil its sustainability agenda and maintain its commitment to safety and security, enhance and deliver on its commitments to improving passenger, community and environmental outcomes.
As such, Motum’s support will be invaluable with legal, compliance and more general ethical and business concerns as the project enters its embryonic phases. Prior to becoming general counsel and company secretary of Sydney Airport, Motum achieved extensive experience in private practice having been a partner of DLA Phillips Fox, specialising in M&A and corporate advisory work.
