Nick Macdonald is the company’s general counsel and has oversight of the wide range of legal support given to the company across its large scale business operations that involve several legal practice areas. An experienced in-house professional with an intimate knowledge of Australia Post’s day-to-day business, Macdonald has been with the company since 2001, practicing in a variety of legal roles until he was selected to lead the legal department from December 2010. Displaying leadership qualities and managing the legal team whilst continuing to keep on top of day-to-day legal issues further saw him add to his remit, adding the role of general manager of assurance in the company’s corporate centre in 2015. Within the last two years, Macdonald has worked on an important joint venture between Australia Post’s transport and logistics business StarTrack and Dubai-based Aramex, that saw the creation of a new company – Aramex Global Solutions.

Macdonald led the Australia Post legal team through the transaction along with coordinating and collaborating with the team’s panel of global law firms to ensure the deal was done efficiently and compliantly. This proves the outstanding nature of Macdonald’s commerciality, and resulted in the tangible business outcome of boosting the reach of Australia Post’s ecommerce services across Asia in doing so. Such outcomes have contributed to the Australia Post business posting a huge full-year profit increase of 41% thanks to its continued growth of business areas including its parcel delivery unit. Most recently, in August 2018 it was announced that Australia Post had reached an agreement with Verifone to enable customers to pay with wearable and mobile devices, and provide better accessibility for those with vision and hearing impairments, another innovative business landmark achieved whilst Macdonald has led legal support to the company.
