Group general counsel of Cochlear since 2008, Ray Jarman took on new responsibilities in 2017, adding company secretary to his remit taking charge of the healthcare company’s corporate governance and board of directors work as well as his existing responsibility for its legal management. Jarman has considerable in-house legal experience holding his general counsel position at Cochlear for approximately a decade and previously serving as general counsel at One Steel from 2000.
Cochlear is a major player in the Australian healthcare devices sector, particularly hearing devices, and has for 30 years been in the forefront of hearing device production and research around the world. Cochlear has a major research presence with its headquarters at Macquarie University and works in collaboration with 100 research partners based in 20 countries. Jarman’s governance of the legal department carries the weight of responsibility for these partnerships maintaining agreements and fostering its new research initiatives, and his extensive experience allows him to carry these responsibilities with expertise.
