As the group executive for compliance, legal and secretariat of an ASX 50-listed banking and finance services provider, Rebecca Lim is well-known within the market for her outstanding knowledge of all relevant legal, compliance and secretariat matters on behalf of Westpac. An in-house lawyer recognised for a variety of senior legal and business roles over 16 years at one of Australia’s “big four” banking organisations, Westpac’s large internal legal, compliance and company secretarial team has a number of professionals based in Australia and globally.
Joining the group executive in October 2016, Lim uses her extensive experience and knowledge of the banking and finance sector to guide operational strategy, and is well-placed to advise on aspects of the Westpac business that transcend simply legal affairs. Indeed, she has held a number of senior leadership roles including as the general manager for human resources at St.George Bank and as general manager of St.George Private Clients. Lim is a huge advocate for gender diversity within the law, and 67.5% of leadership roles in her team are held by women.
Further showing her interest in the industry outside her role, she is the executive sponsor of the Cultural Diversity Employee Action Group at Westpac, is deputy chair of the GC100 executive committee and a member of Chief Executive Women. Before joining Westpac in 2002 Lim practiced across Australia, London and New York, and worked in-house at Goldman Sachs, and has private practice experience at international firms Skadden Arps and Blake Dawson Waldron.
