Steven Van der Donk has been deputy chief legal counsel and EGM legal counsel for build operations at nbn since 2010. He has been critical in the development of the infrastructure needed to launch Australia’s largest infrastructure project, its wholesale national broadband network. He continues to be a vital part of the legal function and oversees the legal matters relating to the ongoing roll out of the broadband service across Australia.
nbn was founded in 2009 in order to provide a national broadband service option to try and alleviate a divide in Australian society between those that could afford the internet and those left behind. nbn is wholly owned by the Commonwealth of Australia as a government business enterprise and as a public sector company is subject to rigorous regulatory control and governance requirements. Van der Donk brings his considerable experience in the telecoms sector and his private practice training as well as engineering expertise from his military experience as a captain in the Royal Australian Engineers.
