What has been the number one challenge that has impacted you over the past year?
Over the past year, the greatest challenge has been the sudden shift to remote work due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This has presented several challenges, ranging from managing a widely spread team to ensuring that legal processes remain compliant with ever-changing regulations. As an in-house lawyer, I have had to stay updated on latest technological developments and consider the legal implications of these changes. The legal landscape is constantly evolving, and I have had to stay informed about the latest developments to provide the best advice to my clients.
Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most?
Looking forward, I believe that the most impactful technological advancements for in-house legal teams will be those that enable greater collaboration and communication. This could include tools such as document management systems, virtual meeting platforms and ChatGPT.
What would you say are the unique qualities required to be successful as an in-house lawyer in your industry?
I would say a successful in-house lawyer should possess the following unique qualities:
A strong understanding of your industry and its regulations.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
The ability to think strategically and anticipate potential legal issues.
The ability to work collaboratively with other departments and stakeholders.
Commitment to staying updated on industry trends and changes in the law.
The ability to provide practical and timely advice.
A willingness to take on challenging tasks and work under pressure.
