What has been the number one challenge that has impacted you over the past year?
Adapting and dealing with change. Over the last 12 months, we saw many changes to the legal, regulatory, political, economic and workplace landscapes both domestically and internationally. It is important to work together as a team to deliver the legal and compliance department’s missions across the organisation. The legal team has a key role to play in setting and maintaining the right culture which is, in turn, critical to the long-term success of any organisation. The legal team is in a unique position to interpret, apply and implement complex legal and regulatory requirements for business and management.
Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most?
Any technology which makes it easier and quicker for the legal team to collaborate internally and across different functions of the business is a priority area for me. I see technology as a tool to assist and not as a means of replacing people.
What would you say are the unique qualities required to be successful as an in-house lawyer in your industry?
Attention to detail. The devil is in the details, so in-house lawyers need to be on top of it.
