Grant Smallhorn has impressed sources with his support of Parsons Brinckerhoff International’s changing business profile. ‘The acquisition of Parsons Brinckerhoff by WSP Global Inc. has created fresh opportunities for legal to support combined and more diverse operations in APAC’, he says. The group has experienced substantial business growth across key global regions. Smallhorn established a legal function where none had previously existed, adapting it along specialist geographical lines. ‘During my time with Parsons Brinckerhoff, my role expanded with corporate growth to encompass all of the company’s non-Americas operations’, Smallhorn says. ‘Regional legal counsel were established in the principal super geographies of Europe, Africa, Middle East and Australia Pacific, with Asia continuing to be supported by me directly’. With further counsel added across Asia Pacific, Smallhorn has overseen further evolution of the function and ensured it is sufficiently robust to support a global business. He has also proactively developed the business’ international risk and compliance networks. Getting to know such a specialist business whilst also manoeuvring multiple and disparate jurisdictions, has been among the biggest challenges of his role, Smallhorn says. ‘It is a privilege to work with highly trained and motivated engineers and architects at the pinnacle of their profession, who are engaged upon landmark and signature projects around the world’, he adds.
