Taking up her current role in November 2015, Stacey Hester currently acts as a senior in-house lawyer for Indue Ltd. In her previous role, also in the financial sector, Hester headed legal for Bank of Queensland and revolutionised the function in response to overwhelming instructions from internal clients. At Bank of Queensland, Hester was required to move from a flat to a tiered structure to ensure more senior team members could focus on complex issues. She also championed ‘subject matter specialists’, to enhance this focus on high-level specialist advice. Regarding her experience at the Bank that lasted over 15 years, she says: ‘It gives me great satisfaction seeing the team move from banking and finance generalists into a highly qualified expert team of specialists’. Persuading the business legal is not a ‘road block’ was a challenge at times, she concedes but she has won considerable respect, both inside and outside her organisation, for the tangible improvement in the Bank’s legal function performance.
