Commonwealth Bank of Australia
The Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) is the country’s leading provider of integrated financial services and one of the most recognised brands in the Australian financial industry. In 2016, Anna Lenahan joined the company as group general counsel and group executive for group corporate affairs, leading the Bank’s legal, secretariat and corporate affairs teams. Due to the company’s status and operations in the financial sector, its legal function is one of the biggest in-house teams in Australia and therefore can boast some of the country’s best in-house legal talent. In addition to Lenahan – who was profiled in The Legal 500’s GC Powerlist: Australia and New Zealand in 2016 – notable members of the team include senior legal counsel and head of legal, global asset management for Australia Pascal Kasimba, executive general manager and general counsel Nick Kusalic and Leif Gamertsfelder, who is the current general counsel for the customer services division of the bank. CBA’s distinguished legal team has a proven track record in overseeing the Bank’s legal affairs such as achieving a partnership with American Express over merchant point of sale transactions, which will see small businesses no longer need to negotiate both bank and American Express credit card pricing, a national first.
