Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense? 

There was a period when the investment team used a relatively bespoke structure for multiple small transactions, which had to be executed on tight timelines. I developed a template and a ‘how to’ guide to enable the investment team to create high-quality term sheets with minimal input from the legal team. The legal team has adapted and rolled out this for other projects. Using guided templates by our investment team frees the legal team to focus on larger projects without compromising the quality of the legal resources available for smaller projects. 

What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?  

The Palisade legal team supports the investment team on various transactions targeting infrastructure and infrastructure-adjacent assets in Australia, the UK, and the US. We play a central role in structuring, negotiating, and implementing all material transactions Palisade completes. Key recent (non-confidential) examples include The formation of Intera Renewables, a renewable energy platform, through the aggregation and refinancing of five of Palisade’s operational renewable energy assets into a single entity of significant scale; the establishment of Palisade Americas, a US-based investment manager, and Palisade’s first investment in North America being Amp Solar, a portfolio of community solar and storage projects.; creating a UK bioenergy platform by acquiring an anaerobic digestion plant and a dedicated operational asset management business.  

What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why? 

Closing digital divides, the gaps between persons who have the means to access and utilise available technology and those who lack it. In an increasingly digitised society, lack of access to technology limits educational and economic opportunities, exacerbating inequality. This is also a core focus of Palisade’s impact investing team, which recently invested in a company that aims to narrow the digital divide by providing low-cost, high-speed internet access to low-income housing. I had the pleasure of providing legal support on that transaction, and I look forward to assisting our impact team in deploying further capital to close digital divides.
