Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?
Some time ago, I led the implementation of a cloud-based system that assists our litigation and disputes lawyers in recording and tracking claims throughout the Asia Pacific region. Prior to this, we did not have any regional matter management systems. The system has enabled better oversight of claims in the region, enhanced reporting to senior stakeholders, provided real-time updates on claims, and increased visibility of legal spend.
What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
I recently managed the regulatory, tax, and legal workstream of a significant transaction involving one of our firms in Asia. This transaction was strategically important to our member firm and had a substantial valuation. The transaction, which was completed earlier this year, was incredibly challenging and involved extensive consideration of local tax and regulatory requirements in the United Kingdom and various Asian jurisdictions for more than a year. We even obtained Swiss legal advice as part of this transaction. Although the transaction was challenging, it was also extremely rewarding as it involved senior stakeholder management, consideration of complex structures, and supported our member firm in achieving its growth ambitions.
What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?
One of the business-related causes I am passionate about is workplace diversity, which stems from my experiences in my current role where I frequently work with people from across the globe, each with varying cultural backgrounds and for whom English is a second language. By promoting diversity and recognising cultural differences, we can get the best out of each individual and leverage their unique perspectives. This is especially important in our workplace, given the breadth of our member firm and the increasingly globalised world in which we operate.
