Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?
By employing creative problem-solving, resource efficiency, collaboration, and an open-minded approach, I have discovered that significant improvements in team performance can be achieved without incurring substantial expenses. In my leadership roles within legal and healthcare teams, I have often identified opportunities to enhance the efficiency and quality of customer services by applying an objective lens to current practices and then streamlining processes.
For example, I have found that innovation can be effective by simply implementing tailored case management systems, optimising preparation workflows, and refining communication strategies. By leveraging existing resources and team expertise, my teams developed standardised procedures and checklists to meticulously plan and execute services that are truly valued by clients. Additionally, establishing a mutual mentorship program is crucial for continuous improvement.
Senior members guide and share their expertise with junior colleagues through workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions. Subsequently, with their fresh perspective, new and junior colleagues are encouraged to suggest improved ways of working. I have repeatedly witnessed this approach yield remarkable results in improving team engagement, time efficiency, consistent quality, and client satisfaction, all without a significant financial investment.
What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
In a leading global biotechnology company with a dynamic portfolio of life-saving medicines that substantially improve patient outcomes, our legal teams are consistently involved in meaningful and significant matters. Notable recent matters include establishing the new global headquarters and centre for research and development in Australia, securing regulatory approvals in the US and the EU for the first gene therapy for haemophilia B, developing major manufacturing facilities in Australia for vaccines, antivenoms, and plasma fractionation, and successfully completing the acquisition of a global specialty pharmaceutical company to expand our global biotech capability. While our legal work spans diverse areas, we operate collaboratively as enabling functions, supporting the organisation.
What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?
I value kindness, receptiveness, and justice, and I believe in the importance of people feeling included and valued in all aspects of life. That is why, to me, fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is paramount. Through years of dedicated support of charitable organisations providing access to justice for vulnerable members of the community, being an active ally, assisting with the development of indigenous corporations, and participating as a mentor responsible for the development of young professionals, I have seen that when we prioritise diversity, create equitable opportunities, encourage inclusive environments, and empower individuals, we enrich our communities and organisations.
