Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?
Throughout my career, I have been a part of legal teams that place a strong focus on improvement and innovation. One example of an initiative I worked on involved developing and implementing a digital work planner utilising Microsoft Planner. The planner enabled individuals within the legal team to track, manage, and prioritise key matters within their respective business unit. This initiative reduced management involvement and empowered team members to self-manage while improving planning between the legal teams and their business units.
I have also previously used JIRA to create scrum boards and manage workflow within the legal team, which led to better coordination, communication, and planning within the team. Both Microsoft Planner and JIRA were software programs already available within the organisation so came at extra no cost to the legal department.
What are the most significant cases or transactions that you have recently been involved in?
Vanguard continues to enhance and build its retail offering to clients in Australia through its low-cost investment products, including its IDPS platform Vanguard Personal Investor and Vanguard Super.
I have served as the primary legal counsel for Vanguard’s Personal Investor business, advising on the initial release of the Vanguard Personal Investor IDPS product as well as the subsequent release of additional features on the platform. These features include, among other things, auto-invest plans that allow clients to establish regular contributions to their preferred financial products, along with reinvestment plans for managed funds and ETF distributions. Additionally, I have also been involved in advising on the expansion of the client categories eligible to open a Vanguard Personal Investor account, including certain companies and trusts.
More recently, I worked on the release of Vanguard Personal Investor Kids Account, a product designed to enable an adult to invest on behalf of a child. As the Vanguard Personal Investor platform is a digital product, I have also provided counsel on technical aspects pertaining to the product’s online delivery through channels like the web and mobile app.
This year, I was involved in a significant project involving the transfer of retail clients invested in Vanguard managed funds to a new Vanguard Personal Investor account. This required meetings with members of approximately 43 Vanguard funds to secure approval for the proposal.
What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?
Increasing the financial literacy of Australians, particularly women, is of the utmost importance to me. My aim is to help these individuals be more engaged with their financial situation so that they can make informed decisions about their finances and investments.
