First, can you please give us an idea of the sort of work your team has done recently?

The work of the team comprises a broad range of topics covering insurance law, insurance supervisory law, civil law and corporate law. Legal changes are constantly monitored and evaluated. The task is also to act as an interface in all legal matters between different departments; in-house on the one hand and authorities and external lawyers on the other hand.

How do you feel the pandemic has changed the world of work for in-house counsel and the function of the general counsel?

The pandemic has changed the world of work for in-house counsel and the function of the general counsel insofar as it has introduced the hybrid workplace. The challenge of the hybrid workplace is to ensure information flow, exchange within the team and collaboration within the team with some team members being in the office and others being in home office.

What would you say are the unique qualities required to be successful as an in-house lawyer in your industry?

The unique qualities required to be successful as an in-house lawyer are business orientation, being able to prioritize, communicating in a management’s language and finally willingness to constantly learn and develop. This is true in any industry.
