First, can you please give us an idea of the sort of work your team has done recently?
In the years 2022 and 2023, the team has been handling difficult reorganisation in foreign countries in the Middle East and in Asia, following the issuance of sanctions and embargos, and the upswing in energy markets following the terrible war of aggression on Ukraine. And we have put a lot of emphasis on steering ESG-related topics throughout the group globally.
How does your legal strategy change during periods of instability or uncertainty?
The legal strategy changes in a way that increased emphasis is put on payment clauses and payment terms, even in day-to-day customer contracts. In general, the most innovation happens in compliance and supply chain related clauses, and the identification of reorganization potential throughout the group.
Do you make use of any ‘legal tech’ products, and if so, for which areas of your job do you find it most useful?
I have developed a legal tech product in my own startup, which is marketed under the ‘Advoodle’ brand, and another one will follow under the ‘ESG Chain’ brand. They are most useful for contract drafting and the identification of adverse impacts in KYS/KYC procedures.
