Longstanding Microsoft lawyer Jeff Bullwinkel is not only an outstanding in-house counsel, but also an avid contributor to public policy debates shaping the future of technology with his strong experience in law, technology and policy. After a long spell serving in several senior legal roles within Microsoft across Asia, in July 2017 Bullwinkel moved to Europe to assume his current role in Amsterdam as associate general counsel and director of corporate, external and legal affairs. He oversees Microsoft’s corporate, external and legal affairs team for Europe with a team including over 150 legal and corporate affairs professionals and staff located in 22 countries that actively support Microsoft’s businesses in over 50 countries in the region. Bullwinkel’s role includes providing astute legal, corporate affairs and community affairs support for Microsoft’s regional sales, marketing and services organisation. He is also responsible for managing regional enforcement strategies developed to address internet safety and cybercrime attacks, intellectual property protection and compliance issues. With extensive experience in leading large multi-skilled teams, in his previous Microsoft role he served as associate general counsel and director of corporate external and legal affairs, for Asia Pacific and Japan. There he oversaw over 75 legal and corporate affairs professionals and staff located in 11 countries, supporting Microsoft’s businesses in over 30 countries in the region. Prior to his 18 years at Microsoft, Bullwinkel served as a trial attorney within the US Department of Justice Criminal Division, holding responsibility for bilateral and multilateral efforts to promote international collaboration in connection with criminal matters.
