Thomas Hartnett has over 25 years of multi-jurisdictional experience in Europe, the US, the former Soviet Union and Asia. Over the years he has accumulated extensive experience in oil and gas and other energy sector matters, including substantial involvement in large-scale negotiations with governmental authorities, suppliers, and finance providers and investors. In his current role as chief legal officer and company secretary, Hartnett has guided Nostrum Oil & Gas in its move to a Premium Listing on the London Stock Exchange and FTSE 250 membership, with c-suite experience as a member of the company’s executive committee and as company secretary directly advising the board. Hartnett was central to negotiating the restructuring of Nostrum’s financings and arranging for a US$300m equity investment at the height of the banking crisis in 2008 and 2009 and subsequently Nostrum’s first bond offering in 2010. ‘This was a difficult process given the global economic circumstances and was all done at a time when Nostrum was in the process of building a US$450m gas treatment facility, so that continued access to financing was crucial to the survival of the company and its ultimate growth’, explains Hartnett. As well as building and leading a 20-member legal team and managing all of the group’s legal affairs, Hartnett has been responsible for assisting in major equity and debt financings and the implementation of a US$1.4bn investment programme since 2008. The largest and most important transactions Hartnett has been involved in during the last three years have been a US$500m contract for the construction of a second gas treatment facility, as well as a bond refinancing in 2017.
