Volker Weisshaar has over 20 years of experience in international legal and compliance functions, at both global enterprise organisations and at start-ups, including experience regualting IPO’s. Weisshaar has a strong track record in building efficient, multi-functional international teams, while implementing effective processes and structures within departments. In his current role as general counsel and member of the management board – EMEA, he has set up the legal strategy of the Sonos European organisation, managing various legal activities which include overseeing business contracts, selective distribution in the EU, strategic partners and ensuring corporate governance. Other areas of operation include developing a compliance programme, privacy, employment matters, dispute management and litigation and intellectual property to coordinate with the global team. Prior to his current role he worked at information technology and services company NetApp, where he served as the general counsel and board member of the EMEA region. During his time at NetApp, he was the first counsel in EMEA and took on the task of setting up the legal function and building a multinational team spread over multiple locations. He was also a member of the executive committee and founder and chairman of the EMEA Business Conduct Council, overseeing all compliance activities in the region.
