What has been the number one challenge that has impacted you over the past year?

The sudden and unexpected boom in sales following Covid resulted in very high quantities of requests and projects for our legal department. In this context, our team was trying for months to recruit a new team member to help us cope with the amount of work. This was a very big challenge as recruitment has grown increasingly difficult (high expectations of candidates, market in favour of candidates who seem to have plenty of options on the market, work-from-home arrangements which our company does not offer).

Do you have an example of a time when you have come up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works that did not result in a large expense?

We started to use Teams for legal team coordination, project organisation, and files management. We started to use a contract and litigation tool to set up a contracting flow within the company and provide templates of contracts drafted by the legal department.

What would you say are the unique qualities required to be successful as an in-house lawyer in your industry?

Being highly organised and passionate about the industry.
