Igor Makedonsky is a lawyer active in the telecommunications sector since 1990. After a first experience as European law specialist in the legal department of Belgacom, he decided to join the Belgian institute for Post and Telecommunications services (“BIPT”) where he assisted the general manager in charge of the development of the regulation of the telecommunications market. In 1998, he joined the regulatory department of Proximus (named at this time Belgacom) as a telecommunications law expert.
From 2001 to September 2011, Igor led a team of lawyers in charge of telecommunications law, competition law and privacy law.
Since October 2011, Igor has been the general counsel of Proximus. He leads a team of about 35 lawyers covering the full range of legal activities. With his team, he has built a strong expertise in legal assistance with the development of telecommunications services.
The mission statement of the Proximus legal department is the perfect summary of the way Igor sees the role of the company lawyer: “We provide solid and creative legal solutions and guidance that fit with the business goal and strategic ambitions, and we optimally manage legal risk. In our role, we act as an agile business partner.”
Igor sees his function as that of a conductor: like a conductor, he must know enough about each instrument to help each one progress, for the orchestra to give its best by integrating each one in the final result and also to allow each one to be a recognised soloist.
Beside his professional activity, he was also member of the Council of the Belgian Institute of the Company Lawyers (from 2005 to 2012).
