What has been the number one challenge that has impacted you over the past year?
The invasion of Ukraine was a trigger for all kinds of changes to how the company operates and how I perform my role. It impacted the safety of our colleagues, the way our risks are managed and regulatory concerns like sanctions.
Do you have an example of a time when you have come up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works that did not result in a large expense?
A couple of years ago, I introduced the ‘Agile Way of Working’ to the department I was then responsible for. It was an intensive change program that improved both the effectiveness of the team and the strength of the team culture, resulting in a department that was much better equipped to take on responsibilities and prioritise these in the context of company strategy. This new way of working created an environment where our lawyers could more easily develop their T-shaped practice, whilst adding value and costing next to nothing.
What would you say are the unique qualities required to be successful as an in-house lawyer in your industry?
Know your business like the business knows its business.
