Can you tell us a little about your most significant accomplishments and projects, as a team or by yourself in your role, recently?
First, let me describe the scope of my achievements as CLO in previous jobs, both in the public and private sectors. My main achievement is the objectification of processes and the possibility of measuring results based on indicators, using management tools which allow the gathering of information through the implementation of indicators, along with being proactive through the development of legal affairs, by often asking questions.
Currently, my team has developed strategies aimed at formalizing our mining rights as a company. Unfortunately, this process has a considerable delay, identified throughout the entire sector. In the contractual field, we have the process up to date and we are working on implementing SLAs with internal stakeholders, to achieve a service with a permanent improvement process. Un terms of corporate information, we have a complete database, well documented, dated and ordered, and satisfactorily completed and registered. Challenge processes are permanently monitored and in search of improving their performance. The project for this year is to develop a tax planning process for all companies which part of the group.
What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about and why?
Factors external to the business group, which permanently harm our work, the lack of legal security for private companies and for the mining sector. Labour issues that generate excessive costs. Also, the lack of due diligence in the management of justice, both in judicial and administrative venues, that generates scenarios of legal insecurity. Despite being a country with a mining vocation, there is not a great level of experience in managing such issues.
How is your legal team planning to contribute to the growth and expansion of your organisation, over the next few months?
As the legal team, our strategy to contribute to the improvement of the company consists in developing a continuous improvement process in all issues under our responsibility, which are: 1) contracts, adjusting what is necessary so that deadlines and legal requirements are met, improving the issuing contracts process and simplifying procedures to have them in order; 2) challenge cases: both in judicial and administrative setting, we will implement a feedback system based on results presented, so that more issues are addressed to improve our overall internal performance and avoid making common mistakes. 3) Advice on labour issues, mining, environmental, civil, criminal, etc., developing standards in the legal framework, and from that defining the acts in legal compliance. 4) Legal compliance, transversally to all cases in the legal area, the implementation of the compliance program must be completed. 5) Implementing a database of legal affair frequent questions, in order to provide quick responses to the multiple areas of the company. 6) Tax planning process, aimed at analyzing management and implementing a way to reduce risks to provide feedback to the system, improving performance.
