Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved the way your legal team works and did not come at a huge cost?

One example I can share is that we have been applying technology to regulation, for example, creating a SharePoint repository to identify regulatory changes and share them with the whole team. In this case, only the company’s existing tools were used to automate processes therefore it did not come at a huge cost.

What are some of the key developments that have affected your business over the past year?

In 2014, an electronic contract was designed for a digital financial product, based on an analysis of Bolivian financial regulations and the civil code. This project was presented before the regulators ASFI and BCB, and as a result of its implementation, the costs of issuing physical contracts in the company were substantially reduced and the number of clients registered in the product increased.

How do you think the internal legal role will evolve in the coming years?

The legal area of a company will have to adapt to the changes coming from technology, especially in relation to AI, although in our country this change will not yet be accelerated as it has been in other countries, many companies, especially in the financial industry, will adopt them and it is necessary to be aware of the risks and opportunities that they present.

Do you use any legal technology products and, if so, for what areas of your work do you find them most useful?

Yes, we currently utilise Regtech which we use to identify, monitor, and manage regulatory changes.
