Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved the way your legal team works and did not come at a huge cost?

Our legal department is committed to the constant development and improvement of the daily tasks of the company, with a sense of innovation that allows us to streamline any requirement that is made to us. As an example, I have led the creation of a database by legal subject matter concerning the company’s field, which is updated in line with new laws and business needs. This has allowed my legal team to respond to frequently made queries in an accurate, clear, and timely manner. Having this information has allowed us to streamline internal processes, making us more available to deal with other complex matters, such as litigation and other processes. In the same way, I have developed an adaptation and update to all contracts that involve the company, allowing us to have specific templates for each activity in which our business develops, either with suppliers or customers, this also achieves review processes accurate and quickly.

What are some of the key developments that have affected your business over the past year?

As society progresses, new ideas and innovative approaches centred around technology have become increasingly apparent. Our business is committed to building a digital government, improving infrastructure and connectivity, developing the digital economy, and new technologies. We believe that data and digital knowledge are strategically crucial for success. Therefore, our corporate legal team is dedicated to keeping pace with these changes, ensuring that we can support the business’s commitment to technological innovation.

How do you think the internal legal role will evolve in the coming years?

The development of technology and the growth of the digital economy has led to significant changes in the various operational processes, market segmentation, and product transformation, turning data and digital knowledge into essential factors for success. Consequently, I believe the internal legal role within Bolivian companies will experience significant changes. These changes involve establishing appropriate legal guidelines to adapt to a new business reality. The internal legal teams will need to have a mastery of regulatory changes in several sectors, for example within telecommunications, digital commerce, including the handling of digital goods and services, digital transformation governance, cybersecurity, data protection and privacy.

Do you use any “legal technology” products and, if so, for what areas of your work do you find them most useful?

Technological facilities are especially useful in our department’s work and as a technology-driven company, we have a variety of tools and platforms at our disposal. We have a platform for the digital storage of our contracts, their numerical allocation, internal chain of approval and protection of the content by means of security watermarks. Additionally, there are platforms for monitoring judicial and arbitration cases, not only for better monitoring and legal administration of cases, but also to allow strategic coordination with other areas involved in the process.
