Maria Paola Gonzales Calderón is asesora jurídica nacional of La Boliviana Ciacruz, a Bolivian insurance entity with 77 years of experience in the field. Graduated from the Bolivian Catholic University Law School, has a master’s degree in population and development sciences from the Free University of Brussels, Belgium, a diploma in administrative law from the Universidad de Los Andes – Universidad del Externado de Colombia, a diploma in educational sciences from the executive committee of the Bolivian University, and, in December 2022, she pursued a master’s degree in commercial and corporate law from the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés, La Paz, Bolivia.

From her normative and regulatory experience in the 2010 and 2011 administrations, Maria Paola participated in international cooperation projects at the municipal level, among other projects, the Municipal Partnership Programme for Economic Development (PMDE) of the Canadian Federation of Municipalities – FCM with the Federation of Association of Municipalities of Bolivia (FAM Bolivia) and the Project Management of Urban Municipalities of the Swiss Cooperation (Ayuda Obrera Suiza – AOS), through the latter approached from the legal perspective the use of information technologies and communication, by municipal governments for the management and dissemination of information on projects, programs and municipal public services.

Maria Paola has twenty years of professional experience, mainly advising on administrative and regulatory law. For ten years she has been performing legal advisory functions in the insurance sector. He is currently responsible for advising on normative and regulatory issues for La Boliviana Ciacruz, developing his activities especially in the administrative and legal relationship with the regulatory entity of the insurance market in Bolivia. Due to the functions she exercises as legal adviser of La Boliviana Ciacruz, Maria Paola participates in the legal committees of the Bolivian Association of Insurers, reviewing the standards to be issued by the pension and insurance supervision and control authority, either in the phase of projects or of administrative resolutions issued by this regulatory authority, in this understanding participated in the review of the surety insurance regulations, insurance agents, mortgage deduction insurance, use of electronic and digital media, among others.

Due to the measures taken during the Covid-19 pandemic, one of the main challenges in the insurance market was to maintain the care of its policyholders, since in Bolivia the quarantine measures taken by the government restricted face-to-face care, so Maria Paola, together with the legal team of La Boliviana Ciacruz, provided legal support for the implementation of electronic and digital media in handling claims, sending and filing documentation, as well as filing, renewing, and marketing insurance policies. Likewise, she contributed to the implementation of the digital signature in the issuance of insurance policies and the use of the electronic signature in their contracting.
