How do you approach the management of legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis, and how does your legal strategy align with the overall business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience? 

Periods of instability and crisis can bring additional risks to business environments, but they also open up opportunities for creating and shaping new ventures. These conditions need to be properly identified and, where appropriate, leveraged, all while adhering to regulatory compliance and the organisation’s ethical principles. Legal strategies should emerge from an organisational assessment of the business environment and its actors, the applicable legal framework, and the development of opportunities and strengths where the legal function plays a role. 

What measures has your company taken to incorporate sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company? 

The company has always maintained a harmonious balance between generating profitability, minimising environmental impact, and promoting social responsibility, which has ensured its viability and sustainability over time. The incorporation of technology, energy efficiency, waste reduction programmes, and the selection of responsible suppliers are just a few of the practices promoted by the company. The role of the lawyer in this context is reflected in the legal support provided for the conception and formalisation of business ventures and/or projects related to the company’s core and secondary activities, as well as in fostering a corporate culture that encourages the adoption of sustainable practices, leading to effective social engagement. 

What emerging technologies do you consider will have the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments? 

Artificial Intelligence (AI) for review, predictive analysis, and document generation. 

Blockchain as a tool for transaction recording. 

Robotic Process Automation (RPA) for automating repetitive tasks such as data entry and calendar management. 

I attempt to stay updated through journals, webinars, and professional networks. 

How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment? 

Inclusion and equity are standard practices within the legal department and are integrated as company policies. To build collective awareness and a corporate culture around these values, we implement training, recruitment strategies, mentorship programmes, and professional development initiatives.
