How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience? 

As the head of the legal area of ​​a market infrastructure, essential for the financial system and stock market of Bolivia. In a situation of instability, the following measures would be adopted: 1) identification of legal risks (regulatory, contractual, compliance and judicial; 2) legal risk assessment; 3) establishment of communication channels (legal team, senior management, board of directors, trustees, regulator and other key stakeholders); 4) periodic reports on the status of legal risks and the actions taken to mitigate them; 5) review and update of legal documents (contracts, policies, internal regulatory documents); 6) alignment of the legal strategy with the general business strategy; 7) strategic integration in decision making; 7) regulatory environment monitoring; and 8) external collaboration with law firms and consultants to obtain specialist advice and additional support where necessary. 

What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?    

I consider that the emerging technologies with the most impact will be: artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (document review and analysis, virtual assistants, predictive analysis.); blockchain and smart contracts; data analysis (big data); Robotic Process Automation (RPA); and cybersecurity and data protection. 

As lawyers, we must remain on the front line of these disruptive technologies and at least participate in conferences, seminars, build a solid network of contacts and promote specialised readings and publications, courses, certifications and learning platforms.
