How do you manage legal matters during periods of instability or crisis, and how do you align your legal strategy with the overall business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience? 

Any crisis involves a profound change that creates an unstable reality; however, it can also present significant opportunities for change and even growth. A crisis pushes us to think outside the box,seek efficiency through digital transformation projects, and utilise digital tools. 

It is essential to thoroughly understand the business, the market, and current regulatory frameworks, while also having a vision of future developments, to align the legal strategy with and support the company’s strategic interests. 

What measures has your company taken to incorporate sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?   

Embol is strongly committed to sustainability in terms of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), implementing significant projects such as: water — returning every drop of water used in the production of our beverages to the environment; recycling — collecting and recycling 100% of the equivalent of all bottles we sell by 2030; climate — our goal by 2025 is to achieve carbon neutrality, meaning being neutral in our greenhouse gas emissions (CO2); community — we have the “Emboluntarios” programme, where volunteer staff from Embol carry out social and environmental initiatives aimed at spreading wellbeing beyond our offices, among other initiatives. In the legal department, we actively contribute by ensuring full legal compliance in each of these projects. 

Which emerging technologies do you believe will have the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments? 

The legal profession is constantly evolving due to significant technological advances. These include process automation through the use of digital tools; contract and legal documentation repository software; and automation in contract generation, among others. It is crucial for lawyers today to master various digital tools, and this requires continuous learning through technological training programmes and digital tools workshops.
