Antonio Ferreira Martins is a stalwart in the oil and gas in-house legal world and is well respected for his leadership and expertise over his 30 plus years in the sector. Martins developed his industry knowledge through a long career at Shell, the international oil colossus, where he held varying legal management roles since the late 1980’s as well as other roles in the aluminium and food production industry. Raízen is a highly competitive Brazilian energy company specialising in sugar cane ethanol as well as a producer of sugar and electricity from biomass. It is a world leader in the commercialisation of this process and was formed as a joint venture between Shell and Cosan. One of the top five largest companies in Brazil, Raízen is constantly expanding and investing providing the legal department with M&A, contract and other commercial work. For example, in August 2018 Raízen announced a joint venture with Geo Energética to build a biogas plant which will be the first commercial scale plant to use filter cake conversion technology in biogas production.
