Augusto Fortuna started his career working in Brazil’s largest intellectual property offices as an IP litigation lawyer and, after 14 years in law firms, he made the choice to focus his career as a corporate counsel. In 2013 he was hired to take over the legal department of AlmapBBDO. In his time with Almap, Fortuna has managed legal negotiations giving him important experience and development as a legal professional and manager. He has provided legal support to global advertising campaigns involving challenging legislation from many countries. This brings him global knowledge about different forms of legal negotiation practiced around the world, adding important legal knowledge. He has also participated in the strategy of new business, client and organisational changes of the company giving him the opportunity to participate in the management of the entire business, and its relationship to the legal division. On this Fortuna says that he is ‘approaching the legal department of the business areas, so that our work [has begun] to be considered part of the whole and not just seen when a legal matter appears. This consolidated the importance of a legal department in an advertising agency’. This year Fortuna was nominated as counsellor to the Ethics Tribunal of the Brazilian Advertising Council.
