About

Luis Fernando Radulov Queiroz has been general counsel and integrity officer for ABB in South and Central America since 2014. Before joining ABB, he sat on the board of directors of AES Eletropaulo, and as AES Brazil’s head of litigation, from 2010 to 2014. Previously, he also held the positions of general counsel and compliance officer of GE Capital in Brazil from 2007 to 2010 and general counsel for BenQ-Siemens in 2005-2006. Today, he proudly manages the activities of Instituto ABB, which is an institution exclusively funded by ABB Brazil since 1998, that supports the education of 100 children living in deprived neighbourhoods close to ABB’s plants in Guarulhos and Osasco. Radulov identified key stages in his career which led him to have the leadership skill that he has today. Firstly, being part of the AES Eletropaulo board made it possible to learn how to handle the corporate relations of a board of directors. Secondly at BenQ-Siemens, he had the opportunity to implement a legal department from scratch. Finally, having the role of compliance officer at a Bank at GE Capital, has helped him to understand the importance of a robust compliance program. In his current role at ABB, Radulov has driven the department towards business solutions, and as a result it has participated more actively on the building of the solutions offered to the company’s clients. On this he says, ‘we introduced an annual evaluation of the legal teams across the region. Each of the countries is evaluated by its internal clients and action plans are developed from the results of the surveys. The results have been improving consistently year on year. We have also introduced a system to communicate with our clients in Brazil and manage our contracts work-flow. From the implementation of that system, we were able to concentrate the information in one place and evaluate the performance of the lawyers. We are responding faster and now have better control of what is being done’.
