What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
Last year, Oracle Brazil’s legal team led the main negotiations aimed at the digital transformation of our customers and partners. I would highlight the migration of 100% of the datacenters of one of the main telecommunications companies in Brazil and our partnership with one of the largest capital market exchanges in the world for the full migration of its systems to the cloud in the next 10 years. Lastly, I would call attention to our cooperation agreement with the ministry of education, for the free availability of the Oracle Academy program, which offers a variety of educational and technological resources for the institutions that are part of the federal, state, district and municipal education networks, which adhere to the agreement.
How important is choosing to work with external lawyers who align with your company’s values? Are you likely to reconsider what firms you work with based on this?
In my opinion, working with law firms that are aligned with Oracle’s values and ideals is fundamental, with diversity being one of our pillars. As part of our hiring process and office preservation, we always take into account initiatives that promote effective diversity and inclusion initiatives. Law firms need to be committed and able to launch strategies that promote affairs such as gender equity, LGBTQ2+ rights, racial equity, rights of persons with disabilities and religious freedom.
How do you suggest in-house lawyers build strong relationships with business partners?
For in-house lawyers to build a strong relationship with their business partners, I would suggest great knowledge of the business, so that the legal department can be a facilitator and effectively contribute with ideas, so deals can be signed safely, for the benefit of both company and client. In addition, in-house lawyers need to have multidisciplinary knowledge, as it is not enough to only provide legal advice, in a dynamic and globalised world. Today, there is no space for a lawyer who is not updated on new technologies and innovations.
