What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
The most important case for our team was the implementation of GDPR/LGPD in Brazil and Latin America because our activity involves more than one hundred dealers and distributors in the region, and they are working with different systems and set ups. As a consequence, to map everything in the region is a huge task. After that, it is necessary to remediate the outcomes discovered during the assessment. Therefore, we had to create a team with different backgrounds to work with this matter, in order to implement our project in the whole region.
How important is choosing to work with external lawyers who align with your company’s values? Are you likely to reconsider what firms you work with based on this?
The values of a company are one of its best assets. For me, working with law firms and lawyers that have the same values is very important, because they can understand our way of working.
In general, what would you like to see change about the external law firms you use?
The most important skill for external law firms is to have an understanding of what the customer needs and how the customer’s business works, in order to give the best support and advice.
How do you suggest in-house lawyers build strong relationships with business partners?
In-house lawyers must work closely to the business, in order to understand the business environment and to give the best solution from a legal perspective in connection with the business perspective. In addition, one must work in a proactive way to avoid liability to the company.
